You know, now the hottest new movie is Transformers: Dark of the Moon, which is been watching everywhere in the world. It was officially released on 1 July 2011. The plot is not complicated, it goes like this: When a mysterious event from Earth’s past erupts into the present day it threatens to bring a war to Earth so big that the Transformers alone will not be able to save us. The movie is directed by Michael Bay, who is one of my favorite directors.

Storyline: The Autobots learn of a Cybertronian spacecraft hidden on the Moon, and race against the Decepticons to reach it and to learn its secrets

The movie stars Shia LaBeouf, John Turturro, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Patrick Dempsey, Kevin Dunn, with John Malkovich and Frances McDormand.

You know what? Dark of the Moon was without a doubt the best film in the trilogy surpassing the loud but tedious 2nd film Revenge of the Fallen. Michael Bay really knows how to please the fans when he realizes he made some mistakes and if that means getting rid of racist twins or immature humor then so be it.

Critics from Rotten Tomatoes saying:

The more action sequences, locations, actors, historical events, machines, effects, monosyllables, weapons, and American-flag close-ups the movie shoves in its mouth and ours, the less we’re able to taste.

The biggest casualties in this third installment of the robot franchise from director Michael Bay are storytelling and character development.

Bay provides his usual Bayisms: bloated close-ups, manly slo-mo, visual hyperbole and glamour shots of a hot babe standing amid the wreckage.

Now let’s watch a video about the movie Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

Transformers 3 : Dark of the Moon – Official Trailer 2 [HD]

There is also a good review about the Transformers 3 at Reason Magazine, I guess you should read it.

So what do you think about the Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon? Have you watched it?

Now what people are watching is My One and Only, which is a latest film loved by many people. So let’s discuss it today.

According to Wikipedia:

My One and Only is a 2009 comedy feature film loosely based on a story about George Hamilton’s early life on the road with his mother and brother, with anecdotes that Hamilton had told to Merv Griffin. Griffin pitched the idea for the script, and had shepherded the project from idea to production, until his 2007 death. His company serves as one of the film’s producers.

My One and Only is directed by Richard Loncraine, written by Charlie Peters and stars Renée Zellweger as Hamilton’s mother.

The film was released on August 21, 2009, in New York City, New York, and Los Angeles, California. On September 4, 2009 the release was expanded to 20 markets across the US. The film was also released in the Netherlands on August 20, 2009.

The Story:

In the U.S. in 1953, the glamorous Anne Deveraux (Renee Zellweger) lives with her bandleader husband Danny, their 15-year-old son George, and Danny’s somewhat older effeminate son Robbie. After catching Danny in an affair Anne sends out George to buy a car, leaves Danny, and embarks with Robbie and George on a journey through the U.S., in search of a husband to fund a new life for her and her boys. Several rich men become a disappointment for Anne, including one she marries, but who turns out to be married already. Anne is briefly put in jail after starting a chat in a bar with a man who turns out to be an undercover police officer, and who takes her for a prostitute and charges her with solicitation…

The New York Times introduced the My One and Only movie like this:

In “My One and Only,” a good-natured screwball road film set in 1953, Renée Zellweger plays Ann Devereaux, a fading Southern belle who drags along her two teenage boys on a nationwide husband-hunting expedition. Crinkling her eyes, smiling coyly and perambulating with seductive flounces, Ann could be a cousin of Blanche DuBois. She belongs to a breed of aggressively glamorous women whose syrupy wiles modern feminism has rendered quaint, and Ms. Zellweger inhabits her fully.

The film’s dialogue is nitwitty at best. Zellweger, who’s established herself as one of Hollywood’s biggest stars,by taking on this role, lowers her prestige to that of a dachshund’s belly. The entire film moves at a snail’s pace so when we add up all the negatives about it and how much I deplored it, it will probably win 5 Oscars come Feb.2010. [IMDb]

Now let’s take a look at what critics said about this film.

Critic Reviews:

USA Today, Claudia Puig
“There’s nothing particularly unique about My One and Only, except that the story is inspired by incidents in the real childhood of actor George Hamilton.”

If you have any curiosity at all about how a fellow like George Hamilton became a fellow like George Hamilton, My One and Only answers the question by looking, fondly, at his primary caregiver.

A sweet, sentimental, occasionally naughty, attractively mounted piece of old-fashioned hokum that will appeal to audiences, mostly female, of a certain age.

[via: Rotten Tomatoes]

Now people are watching Inglourious Basterds, which is a very latest popular movie, more and more people are talking about it, so I think I’d better share it with you guys. Well, let’s find out what’s interesting in this film.

According to Wikipedia:

Inglourious Basterds is a 2009 revenge war film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino and released in August 2009 by The Weinstein Company and Universal Pictures. It was filmed in several locations, among them Germany and France, beginning in October 2008. The title of the film was inspired by Italian director Enzo Castellari’s 1978 film The Inglorious Bastards. However, it is not a remake. Instead, it is set in Nazi-occupied France during World War II, and depicts a plan to assassinate the Nazi leadership.

Tarantino has repeatedly stressed that despite its being a war film, Inglourious Basterds is his “spaghetti western but with World War II iconography”. In addition to spaghetti westerns, the film also pays homage to the World War II “macaroni combat” sub-genre (itself heavily influenced by spaghetti-westerns), as well as French New Wave cinema.

Inglourious Basterds was accepted into the main selection at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival in competition for the prestigious Palme d’Or and had its world premiere there in May. It was the only U.S. film to win an award at Cannes that year, earning a Best Actor award for Christoph Waltz.

The story of this movie is very meaningful and interesting, let’s take look.

The Story:

In the first year of the German occupation of France, Shosanna Dreyfus witnesses the execution of her family at the hand of Nazi Colonel Hans Landa. Shosanna narrowly escapes and flees to Paris where she forges a new identity as the owner and operator of a cinema. Elsewhere in Europe, Lieutenant Aldo Raine organizes a group of Jewish American soldiers to perform swift, shocking acts of retribution. Later known to their enemy as “the basterds,” Raine’s squad joins German actress and undercover agent Bridget von Hammersmark on a mission to take down the leaders of the Third Reich. Fates converge under a cinema marquis, where Shosanna is poised to carry out a revenge plan of her own.

Brad Pitt … Lt. Aldo Raine
Mélanie Laurent … Shosanna Dreyfus
Christoph Waltz … Col. Hans Landa
Eli Roth … Sgt. Donny Donowit
Michael Fassbender … Lt. Archie Hicox

Now let’s take a look at what critics said about this movie.

Critics Reviews:

A sprawling feast of a movie that’s by turns funny, exciting, outrageous and just plain exhilarating, Inglourious Basterds actually is the event it was touted to be.

It’s a violent wish-fulfillment fantasy, and if such a thing is necessarily immoral, then Inglourious Basterds is immoral. But it’s also — necessarily — a provocation.

Tension, twists, humor, and it’s constant. This is the best adult ‘Once Upon a Time’ I can think of.

[via: Rotten Tomatoes]

Now people are watching Julie & Julia, which is a very popular new film, more and more people are talking about it, so let’s discuss it too.

According to Wikipedia:

Julie & Julia is a 2009 dramedy film, written and directed by Nora Ephron. The film depicts events in the life of chef Julia Child in the early years in her culinary career, contrasting her life with Julie Powell, a woman who aspires to cook all 524 recipes from Child’s cookbook.

Ephron’s screenplay is adapted from two books: My Life in France, Child’s autobiography, written with Alex Prud’homme, and a memoir by Julie Powell. In August 2002, Powell started documenting online her daily experiences cooking each of the 524 recipes in Child’s Mastering the Art of French Cooking, and she later began reworking that blog, The Julie/Julia Project, into a book, Julie & Julia: 365 Days, 524 Recipes, 1 Tiny Apartment Kitchen (Little, Brown, 2005). The paperback was retitled Julie & Julia: My Year of Cooking Dangerously (Back Bay Books, 2006). Both books adapted by Ephron were written and published in the same time frame of 2004 to 2006. The film is the first major motion picture based on a blog.

Ephron began filming Julie & Julia in March 2008. Meryl Streep portrays Julia Child, and Amy Adams appears as Julie Powell. The film officially premiered on July 30, 2009 at the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York City and opened throughout North America on August 7, 2009.

The story of this film is not complicated, but it’s interesting, let’s have a look.

The Story:

Frustrated Lower Manhattan Development Corporation worker Julie Powell (Amy Adams) embarks on a year-long culinary quest to cook all 524 recipes in Julia Child’s Mastering the Art of French Cooking. She chronicles her trials and tribulations in a blog that catches on with the food crowd. The film also covers the years Julia Child (Meryl Streep) and her husband Paul (Stanley Tucci) spent in Paris during the 1940s and 1950s, when he was a foreign diplomat who was eventually investigated by Senator Joseph McCarthy for alleged communist ties.

Now let’s take a look at what critics said about this movie.

Critic Reviews:

Chicago Tribune, Geoff Berkshire
“Meryl Streep scores again as Julia Child, but Amy Adams isn’t so lucky.

As a writer herself and a woman in an even more cutthroat business, you would think that Ephron might shed off her usual goody-goody fantasies and stick one to Powell. Heh, ridicule in a Nora Ephron film? Even Julia Child would raspberry that one.

Nora Ephron’s winning new movie is a tonic for those seeking something different from the usual summer fare of explosions, aliens and all things gone berserk. And what a swell departure it is.

This may not be a great movie, but it’s a sweet, funny, enjoyable work with characters it’s possible to care about and fine performances straight across the board.

According to Wikipedia:

The Time Traveler’s Wife is a 2009 film based on Audrey Niffenegger’s 2003 novel of the same name. The film is directed by Robert Schwentke and stars Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams.

Filming began in September 2007, originally in anticipation of a fall 2008 release. The film’s release was postponed with initially no official explanation from the studio. McAdams later noted that the delay was due to reshoots that could not be completed until the season at their outdoor location matched previously filmed footage, and Bana had regrown his hair following his work on the 2009 film Star Trek. The film was released in theaters on August 14, 2009.

What did critics say about the Funny People? Let’s take a look.

Critic Reviews:

Apatow and Sandler chose not to wander far from their core teen male audience, even in this darkly comic film about a comic movie star reevaluating his life in the face of death.

Bromances like Funny People do a disservice to the friendship capabilities of straight men, making them seem stunted.

Messy, self-indulgent, intriguing — but it only really comes alive when it focuses on the competitive ‘friendship’ of the actor-roommates played by Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill and Jason Schwartzman.

The story of this film is very interesting, let’s take a look.

The Story:

Abby Richter (Katherine Heigl) is a romantically challenged morning show producer in Sacramento, California. Coming home from a disasterous date one night, she happens to see a segment of a local television show, “The Ugly Truth,” run by Mike Chadway (Gerard Butler), a male chauvinist whose cynicism of relationships prompts Abby to call into the show to argue with him on-air. The next day, she discovers that the station is threatening to cancel her show because of its poor ratings, and her superiors have hired Mike to do a segment on their show to bring them back up.

At first, the two have a rocky relationship; Abby thinks Mike is crass and disgusting while Mike finds Abby to be a control freak. However, after she meets the man of her dreams, a doctor named Colin living next to her, Mike persuades her to follow his lead to prove his theories on relationships and allow her to find love.

Cast:

What did people say about this movie? Take a look.

“I have not laughed so much over a movie as I did watching “The Ugly Truth” This was film was hysterical and Gerard Butler and Katherine Heigl were great in the roles. It is a must see movie for both men and women. I thought that the script was well written and true to life and if this movie gets a poor rating, then the reviewers need to lighten up. I would go see this movie again.” [Via: IMDb]

“The disappointing thing about The Ugly Truth isn’t that it’s formulaic, stupid, and unfunny. It’s that it’s formulaic, stupid, and unfunny in all the usual ways. Is there no more ingenuity in Hollywood? Can no one think of new ways for movies to be irritating and pointless?” [via: film.com]

Critic Reviews:

…despite some execrable dialogue, the clocklike predictability of the jokes and a total lack of faith in the audience’s powers of discernment, Heigl and Butler almost pull it off.

Here’s the REAL ugly truth: The Ugly Truth is an uninspiring romantic-comedy rehash.

The Ugly Truth is a highly calculated attempt to recalibrate with raunch the family entertainment template and cash in.

Now people are watching the new movie 500 Days of Summer, which is a very interesting film loved by more and more people. So let’s talk about it today.

According to Wikipedia:

500 Days of Summer is a 2009 American romantic comedy film. It is directed by Marc Webb, produced by Mark Waters, and stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel. This is Gordon-Levitt and Deschanel’s second movie together (following Manic). Principal photography began in April 2008 in Los Angeles, California. The film opened in limited release on July 17, 2009, and will be released in Australia on October 1, 2009.

Movie Info:

Genres: Comedy and Romance
Running Time: 1 hr. 35 min.
Release Date: July 17th, 2009 (limited)
MPAA Rating: PG-13 for sexual material and language.
Distributors: Fox Searchlight Pictures
U.S. Box Office: $834,501
[via: Yahoo! Movies]

The story of this film is very interesting, let’s take a look.

They Story:

The film tells the story of the relationship between a woman, Summer (Zooey Deschanel), who doesn’t believe in true love and a man, Tom (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), described as a hopeless romantic, who falls in love with her. Over a span of 500 days, the story moves in a non-linear fashion from the perspective of Tom, who goes from ecstatic giddiness one moment, indulging in a fantasy song and dance sequence at one point, to crippling depression the next. It features two songs (“Us” and “Hero”) by Regina Spektor, and “Sweet Disposition” by Melbourne-based band The Temper Trap.

You see, it’s very meaningful and interesting, isn’t it?

Cast:

Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Tom Hanson

Zooey Deschanel as Summer Finn

Jennifer Hetrick as Sarah

The number one reason I watched this film is that I am a big fan of Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Some people say: “Joseph Gordon-Levitt is such a talent to be cherished? Why is this guy so much more on my respect level than all these other young actors working in Hollywood. Not only does Gordon- Levitt pick movies that have more emphasis in being a good story than being heavily promoted, he is willing to play characters that don’t necessarily make himself look like a superstar. He is brave enough to play a part in which he would have to be very insecure in front of massive audiences. For that I commend him.” [via: IMDb]

The music in the movie is very wonderful, let’s take a look.

Soundtrack:

 1. “A Story of Boy Meets Girl” – (Mychael Danna and Rob Simonsen)
2. “Us” – (Regina Spektor)

What did critics said about this film? Let’s have a look.

Critics Reviews:

Boston Globe, Ty Burr
“…the movie charmed me enough to send me out smiling, and I can see younger filmgoers taking it very much to heart.”

E! Online, Peter Paras
“The banter can be a bit self-conscious, but it’s hard not to find most of it charming…”

[via: Yahoo! Movies]

Cool as a melty Creamsicle on a hot summer day and a sweet surprise in the middle of blockbuster season. Gordon-Levitt’s performance is as starmaking as John Cusack’s in the romcom opus, Say Anything.

What saves 500 Days from terminal shallowness are Gordon-Levitt and Deschanel, who are not the usual picture-perfect androids peopling these young-love idylls.

Now what people are watching is Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, this is one of the best films in 2009, people have enjoyed a lot fun from Ice Age 1 and Ice Age 2, now it’s time enjoy the fun from Ice Age 3.

Wikipedia introduced Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs like this:

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, also known as Ice Age 3 , is a 2009 3-D computer animated film. It is the third installment of the Ice Age series. It was announced and approved by Fox president Hutch Parker on January 30, 2007. It was initially slated for a December 12, 2008 release, but the scheduled release date was moved to July 1, 2009. A sneak preview was shown in selected theaters on Father’s Day in the United States. The film was produced by Blue Sky Studios and features the voices of Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, Queen Latifah, Seann William Scott, Josh Peck, Simon Pegg, and Chris Wedge, and the film is distributed by 20th Century Fox.

The film was released in RealD where available. The release gained some controversy when Fox announced that it would no longer pay to supply 3D glasses to theaters, which led a threat from a number of exhibitors to only show the film in standard 2D projection. The film’s original trailer debuted with the film Horton Hears a Who! on March 14, 2008. There are three others that have been released, with the third and fourth (which shows Buck) being the most closely resembling each other. Queen Latifah recorded a cover of the song “Walk the Dinosaur”.

The story is simple, but very creative and interesting, let’s take a look.

The Story:

The sub zero heroes are back. Scrat is still trying to nab the ever elusive nut, while maybe finding true love. Manny and Ellie await the birth of their mini-mammoth. Diego the saber toothed tiger wonders if he’s growing too soft and Sid the sloth gets into trouble when he creates his own makeshift family by hijacking some dinosaur eggs. On a mission to rescue the hapless Sid, the gang ventures into a mysterious underground world, where they have some close encounters with dinosaurs, battle flora and fauna, run amuck and meet a relentless, one eyed, dino-hunting weasel named Buck.

So what critics said about the movie Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs? Let’s take a look.

Critics Reviews:

Ice Age 3 is wittier than Kung-Fu Panda, certainly as slick as Toy Story. The Ice Age franchise shows no signs of thawing out. Come on 4!

Certainly not terrible, but ultimately forgettable and that means you should skip it.

Has enough crisp sight gags, character moments, frantic mayhem and musical interludes…to box the family crowd into a state of punch-drunk love.

Public Enemies is a 2009 film directed by Michael Mann, an adaptation of Bryan Burrough’s non-fiction book Public Enemies: America’s Greatest Crime Wave and the Birth of the FBI, 1933–34.

The crime drama is set during the Great Depression with the focus on the FBI agent Melvin Purvis’s attempt to stop criminals John Dillinger, Baby Face Nelson, and Pretty Boy Floyd. Principal photography began in Columbus, Wisconsin on March 17, 2008 and continued in Chicago, Illinois; Oshkosh, Wisconsin; Beaver Dam, Wisconsin; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Madison, Wisconsin; and several other places in Wisconsin until the end of June 2008, including the Little Bohemia Lodge in Manitowish Waters, Wisconsin, the actual location of a 1934 gun fight between Dillinger and the FBI. Some parts of the film were shot in Crown Point, Indiana, the town where Dillinger was imprisoned and subsequently escaped from jail.

The story of this movie is very interesting, let’s take a look.

Plot:

In the action-thriller Public Enemies, acclaimed filmmaker Michael Mann directs Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, and Academy Award® winner Marion Cotillard in the incredible and true story of legendary Depression-era bank robber John Dillinger (Depp), the charismatic bank robber whose lightning raids made him the number one target of J. Edgar Hoover’s fledgling FBI and its top agent, Melvin Purvis (Bale), and a folk hero to much of the downtrodden public. No one could stop Dillinger. No jail could hold him. His charm and audacious jailbreaks endeared him to almost everyone, from his girlfriend Billie Frechette (Cotillard), to an American public who had no sympathy for the banks that had plunged the country into the Depression. But while the adventures of Dillinger’s gang (later including the sociopathic Baby Face Nelson (Stephen Graham)) thrilled many, Hoover (Billy Crudup) hit on the idea of exploiting the outlaw’s capture as a way to elevate his Bureau of Investigation into the national police force that became the FBI. He made Dillinger America’s first Public Enemy Number One and sent in Purvis, the dashing “Clark Gable of the FBI”.

Critic Reviews:

Boasts solid performances by Johnny Depp and the radiant Marion Cotillard, but suffers from excessive style over substance. It often drags and lacks insight, palpable thrills along with dramatic tension.

Michael Mann shows some restraint and comes up big with this one.

The movie tangentially holds your interest, but could have been so much better if it had developed a rooting interest for one side or the other.
