Whatever Works (2009) Film

Now what people are talking much about is Whatever Works, which is a very latest film loved by more and more people. Since it is so hot, let’s discuss it now.

According to Wikipedia:

Whatever Works is a 2009 comedy film written and directed by Woody Allen. The film is a comedy featuring Larry David, Evan Rachel Wood, Patricia Clarkson, Kristen Johnston, Ed Begley, Jr., Michael McKean, and Henry Cavill.

The movie was filmed in New York City, marking Allen’s return to his native city after a four-film sojourn in Europe. “It’s very classic Woody Allen but it’s still different than anything he’s done,” revealed Wood in a December 2008 interview.

This comedy film is very interesting, and it is very meaningful, we can learn a lot from the movie, this is why I’m discuss it here.

The story is also very interesting, let’s take a look.

Plot:

David stars as Boris Yelnikoff, an eccentric, misanthropic chess teacher from Greenwich Village who comes home one night and finds a young woman (Evan Rachel Wood) lying on his doorstep. He takes her in for the night and eventually marries her, despite their 40 year age difference and her absent mindedness. His philosophy on the matter is that life is short so he might as well enjoy himself.

That’s it, you will enjoy more when you watch the movie, I don’t want to show you everything here.

What critics said about Whatever Works (2009)? Let’s take a look.

Critic Reviews:

E! Online, Natasha Vargas-Cooper
“It has some trademark Woody pith and romance but nothing new to be shared or remembered.”

Entertainment Weekly, Lisa Schwarzbaum
“The fact that Allen wrote the script in the ’70s explains something about why his newest movie feels so old.”

What watchers said? See below:

If you want to see Larry David limp around and see his view of ‘the glass is probably covered with diseases so who cares if it’s half empty or half full,’ then go along for this ride.

Woody Allen had a nice winning streak going for him, and then he brought in his younger self to screw things up.

Part of Boris’ worldview seems to be to excuse the movie in which he stars. Try not to overthink it, Allen seems to say: just enjoy it.
